Phantom Match Report from May 28th

Phantoms, Voltage Tie 0-0
Saturday, May 28th

The Seacoast United Phantoms played to a 0-0 draw against the Vermont Voltage under the lights at Portsmouth High School to a great crowd of local fans and many Seacoast United athletes who had shown up in support of their team. The weather was cold and foggy but everyone stayed for the duration and enjoyed the match.

The first half involved back and forth play between both squads as each tried to feel each other out and get into a rhythm, with Seacoast United controlling possession for the better part of the first 45. Eric Masi, Brad Hilton, and Chris Tsonis stood out for their physical play, decision making, and distribution. The defenders for Seacoast United played well, showing discipline and excellent passing out of the back field.

The second half featured much of the same play, with Seacoast United again showing poise and discipline all over the pitch. The middle of the field began to open up for both teams but Seacoast United continued their dominance and controlled the ball better than their opponents. Jesse Schram and Eric Masi held their own at midfield and displayed great passing to their outside midfielders and forwards. The backs for the Phantoms once again played textbook defense, showing patience and great vision as they moved the ball out of trouble.

Seacoast United Phantoms coaches Iain Scott and John Price both commented on the quality of their team’s play and felt as though the squad had shown improvement over the past few weeks of training. “Overall, we have to be happy with the level of play,” said Scott. “We just need to find the back of the net.” While the end result wasn’t there for the Club, all agreed that the team was heading in the right direction and building momentum.
